How to Replace an Audi G28 Engine Speed Sensor

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The sensor is located at the edge of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends a signal to ECU pin T55/49 via a grey wire. The ECU then utilizes this information to regulate the flow of fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an alert to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to link with the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft has reached TDC and also the location of the camshaft to trigger the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails the ECU will show an error code P00160 which indicates that the Crank Shaft and Intake Camshaft are not in sync and possibly indicating the chain is stretched or a jump link on the upper timing chain. Testing is a bit challenging as there are two different connector pins, and they perform different functions but the most effective method to test it is by measuring resistance between the sensor and the ECU. 2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating from the highway paytoll at full speed I noticed a massive decrease in power. It was as if the engine had run out of gas. Or my injectors were not firing. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, three were soaked with gasoline and the fourth was unclean. I put tissue over each injector hole and when i start the engine without sparks, the three that have gazoline pop right out. The 4th one remains shut. I tried to test the ground connections of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I got 0ohm. I'm assuming the issue is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset the PID but with no luck. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it works fine when the G28 plugged in. However, the intermittent misfire problem still occurs at higher RPM. The coolant temperature sensor (G62) shows the wrong temperature of that is -49c even after unplugging it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bars while the actual pressure is zero.

I'm not sure what to do, i believe that i've completely ruled out all other possibilities. I'm concerned that i may have missed something. Let me know If you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump
